Why L'Étoile, from Oyster Bay

Real French cooking

Escargots in garlic butter, sole meunière, steak frites with proper bordelaise. The kitchen is run by a chef who trained in Paris and Lyon — this isn't bistro pastiche.

A wine list a sommelier built

About 200 bottles, French-led — Champagne, Bourgogne, Bordeaux, Loire, Rhône, Alsace — with a few bottles from California and the Finger Lakes when they earn it.

Walking distance from the village

From Theodore Roosevelt Park or the harbor, we're a five-minute walk. Have an apéritif at the bar before, or a digestif and a tarte tatin after.

Candlelit, every night

By 6 PM the marble bar is candlelit; by 8 PM the room is. We don't do brunch; we don't do happy hour. Dinner is the format and we lean into it.

Common questions from Oyster Bay

Is L'Étoile dressy?

Smart casual is the right read. Most guests dress up a little; jackets are welcome but not required. We don't enforce a strict dress code, but we set the tables nicely and the room responds to it.

Do you take walk-ins from Oyster Bay locals?

We hold a few seats at the bar and the marble bar-top each evening for walk-ins. For the dining room, please book one or two days ahead — Friday and Saturday usually fill seven days out.

Do you do prix-fixe or tasting menus?

Our regular menu is à la carte. We can build a four-course tasting for the table on request, with or without wine pairings — please mention when you book.
